If your an AT&T or T-Mobile customer, you will have the liberty to test pilot a new platform service. A company called Transit Wireless has paid the Transit Authority about $30 million dollars to test out their wireless service come Tuesday. So those consumers will be able to use their cell phones to talk or text on selective subway platforms along 14th street at 6th, 7th and 8th avenue and also at 23rd street on the 8th avenue platform. So if you ride A, C, E, F, L, M, No. 1, 2 and 3 on 14th street or the C,E on 23rd street consider yourself lucky or not. If all goes according to plan, you can expect the service on platforms throughout come 2016.
Now there is one thing I would like to mention, now that the MTA is making $30 Million off this service, does that mean no fare hikes cause clearly we know the Tranist Authority is already sitting on cash.
The service could be useful or it could be a curse. The usefulness of the service is being able to make emergency calls when necessary, letting a family, friend or boss know where you are if you’re running late and, making use of texting, googling, facebooking, tweeting, and mapping to keep busy underground. The downside simply, loud mouth folks who already yell into their phones for no reason. Just more of a reason for them to scream into their phones or argue with the person on the other line as if the trains pulling in and out the stations are not loud enough.
