I reviewed the original Sol Republic Tracks HD’s last year. You can read that review HERE.

We announced back in the beginning of March when Sol Republic and tokidoki teamed up to release these special edition Tracks HD. Since then I have been using a few different pairs of headphones, so I decided to go back and try them again. It’ll be a quick run-down of what the Tracks HD tokidoki edition sound like with a description of their design and packaging.

Sol Republic tokidoki Tracks HD – Design

Let me tell you that even if you never ever heard of Sol Republic, the tokidoki design will definitely catch your eye! The bright colors and animation of the packaging are just so vivid. The outside of the Sol Republic’s nearly indestructible headband, also known as the FlexTech™ Sound Track headband has Italian artist Simone Legno’s tokidoki animations all over it. These colorful characters are the same ones you see on the eye-catching package. Legno’s inspiration behind tokidoki is actually music, so it makes sense that he came together with Sol Republic to design these Tracks HD’s. The inside of the FlexTech Sound Track headband is hot pink. Right there I went from liking these to LOVING these. I enjoy the color pink, especially hot pink. It has little sketches of tokidoki design and the tokidoki logo on the inside as well.

The cans are all black with the Sol Republic logo in purple. What a great touch! The clear-talk cable is white and has a mic and three buttons to pause and continue playback and control the volume. The headphones are are adjustable by sliding the cans up and down the headband. The headband is of course sturdy. My only concern is the clear-talk cable. They don’t seem to be able live inside my bag. They are not sturdy like Monster’s cables. I would carry these cautiously when traveling.

“tokidoki is the hope, the hidden energy that everyone has inside, It gives us the strength to face a new day and dream about something positive and the hope that something magical will happen to us.” – Simone Legno

Sol Republic tokidoki Tracks HD – Sound and Experience

Like all other Tracks HD’s, the cans are V10s. It’s Sol Republic’s middle line of Tracks (there’s the regular Tracks and the Tracks Ultra).

The tokidoki x Sol Republic deliver great filling sound. While the cans might be a bit too round for my ears, they sit comfortably and close in enough to create loud somewhat enclosed sound. It has the amount of bass you’d expect for headphones in the $149 price range.

But they are not the all about the bass. I tested them with Michael Jackson’s – “You Rock My World. The beat comes in loud and clear. The song is mostly uptempo. It had my headphones vibrating at the bass heavy parts. Audiophiles however will notice how the bass is sometimes a bit overbearing. Not a deal-breaking level though. These headphones are great for listening to pop music.

Europe’s “The Final Countdown also came on full blast with the V10s. The round cans aren’t comfortable after 3 hours of wear for me. The round shape isn’t fitting to my ears; luckily the headband and cans are cushioned.
