5 Reasons Why You Should Play Mortal Kombat X [If You Haven’t Already]

When NetherRealm Studios, the company behind one of the longest running fighting games announced that they were working on the next installment to the franchise fans couldn’t wait. As the days got closer to release, Ed Boon would drive fans on social media crazy by tweeting out clues about who would be in the game. Fans couldn’t wait to get their hands on the new game, as some of them even camped out in front of GameStop to get the game at 12 a.m.

Now that the game has dropped, some people have been on the fence on whether or not to purchase it. Gamers have become “picky” when it comes to getting new games, in the past we’ve seen companies hype the game up so much that we couldn’t wait to get our hands on them, then once we played we’ve come to realize that the game didn’t live up to the hype. We basically just spent 60 bucks or more (DLC, Season Pass) on a game we no longer want to play. So you can understand why new comers as well as veterans of the game are still waiting to see if it’s really worth the buy. So I’ve composed a list for those of you that are still on the fence. Here are 5 reasons you should check out Mortal Kombat X.

1. 25 Years Later

This time around the Story-line in Mortal Kombat takes place 25 years after the last game, which was Mortal Kombat 9. Shao Khan has been defeated, yes I know, what a shock, but Shinnok takes his place in attacking Earth with his clan. You get to follow some of your favorite characters into the future, now if you are new to the series not to worry, they explain everything before you start to play, and this is also good for those of us that have played the game, but may have forgotten what happened.

I know most players don’t enjoy playing through story modes, most of them feel that as they progress in the game it becomes boring, but the good thing about MKX story-line is that you won’t get bored. The story grabs you and has you eager to find out what happens next and who will you get to see next. Characters that are not on the playable roster make guest appearances.

2. Time to Meet The Family

Of course we’re excited to play some of the most popular charters in MK, but now we can play as their offspring. You can play as Cassie Cage, the daughter of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, Jacqui Briggs, the daughter of Jax, Takahasi Takeda, the son of Kenshi’s and Kung Jin, the cousin of Kung Lao. Knowing who these kids are related to makes it fun to see how their play style will be like. Will Cassie Cage take after her father or mother? Will Takahasi Takeda have the same powers as his father? or will he be stronger than him? As I played through the cast I will say, some of the kids have a better play style then their family members.

3. Fresh Faces

Now most of us already knew who we were going to play mainly as soon as Ed Boon announced the roster, but he did add a couple of new faces to the group that had players thinking, “Maybe I should try this person instead” If you follow me on any of my social media sites, you would know I’m a die hard Kitana player, but I decided to try out a new character; D’Vorah, who I quickly became attached too. D’Vorah is not the only fresh face in the roster, you also have Erron Black, Tany (DLC), Ferra/Torr, Kotal Khan, and Friday the 13th star, Jason (who is available to play now if you have Kombat Pack), and Predator (available through the Kombat Pack DLC). So if you weren’t a fan of the original cast, you can now try out some of the new faces and see who fits you the best.

4. Variations of Fighting Styles

Things get more exciting this time around. Your character has three different fighting styles to pick from, no more of just the same old fighting technique. Players will be able to choose which style they would like to use before the fight begins, you get a small preview of what that style consists of.
Ex, Kitana has Royal Storm, Assassin, and Mournful, make sure you go over the commands before going into the game, each variation will have the character do something different, so if you are used to playing one Assassin, and switch Royal Storm be mindful that you won’t get the same combos. You can try and master all three, or just stick with the one you like the most.

5. New Modes

Faction Wars was added to the game, players will choose between five different factions; Black Dragon, The Brotherhood of Shadow, The Lin Kuie, Special Forces and White Lotus. Once you’ve picked your side you can now accumulate points while you play. Your points will be combined with the rest of your clan. You will be given challenges to complete, this will help in adding point to your faction clan. This brings a fun and competitive feel to the game, especially if you and your friends are on different sides, it’s always fun to brag and give your friends hell for being on the losing side.

Towers Challenges have always been a part of the MK franchise, but the company decided to add something new. The towers got a nice upgrade and added Living Towers. Living Towers will be three different tiers that are around for different lengths of time along with different range of difficulty. Quick Towers consist of five fights, after that the tower will be updated in a couple of hours. If you’re looking for a bit of a challenge, you can try your luck at Daily Tower. Daily Tower’s has eight fights, after that it will be updated again in the next 24 hours. Last but not least, you have the Premier Tower, in this tower you will have 15 matches, and these are the hardest matches you will probably fight. With the different Towers and Faction Wars, this will keep players coming back to fight different challenges.

There are so many other reasons for you to consider picking up a copy of Mortal Kombat X, but hopefully this list helps make the decision to purchase much easier.
