Google Play Music App Gets Much Needed Update

I use Google Play Music premium service so I am excited they announced a overhaul to the UI and the service itself. Play Music is said to become more intuitive, like a personal DJ. The changes are coming to all Android, iOS, and web apps. Becoming “smarter” like the other Google apps, Play Music will give better recommendations not only of the type of music you like, but when you’d like to hear it. This means based on where you are, the weather in that location, and what activity you’re doing; the music selections will change. They want to create a soundtrack for your current activity.

Google Play Music Learns You

“To deliver that, Google Play Music uses machine learning to figure out what music you like and then mixes in signals like location, activity, and the weather along with hand-picked playlists to personalize music for wherever you are and whenever you want tunes. Starting this week on Android, iOS and the web, the new experience will roll out globally (62 countries, to be precise).” – From Google Blog Post

Google Play Music

The home screen doesn’t only look better, but it’s supposed to place what you want in the moment you want it. So the homescreen won’t look the same throughout the day. My favorite part to the update is the offline playlists they will create based on what you’ve listened to recently (even if you didn’t download it ahead of time). Let’s hope the update rolls out soon!

“The new Google Play Music has a brand new home screen built just for you. Think of it as the ultimate personal DJ—one who listens not only to what you like, but also when you like it, so the music that you care about now is always at the top of your screen. Maybe that’s your favorite new release on Friday, the dance party playlist you listen to after work, or more music from a new artist you’ve just fallen in love with. Regardless, it will be there waiting for you to press play. Powered by Google’s machine learning systems and honed by our team of expert music curators, your experience will keep evolving (and improving) as we get to know you better.”
