If you’ve been keeping up with the Street Fighter esports scene, you already know about the upcoming Red Bull Battle Grounds tournament. The Capcom Pro Tour North American Finals at Red Bull Battle Grounds will take place at the The Castle in Boston on November 18-19. Why did they decide to have the tournament at the The Castle in Boston? The historical landmark is reminiscent of the Street Fighter V “Union Station” stage, this will give fans of the game the opportunity to feel like they are in the game. The tournament will host hundreds of hopeful challengers from around the continent, which will gather at the two-day event for a 512 player open bracket tournament and a chance at winning a spot at the grand finals on Sunday.
This tournament will be the final tournament before heading into the Capcom Cup, which will be held in December. But, what some of you may not know – is with the upcoming Street Fighter’s 30th anniversary, the company will allow all attendees to use the HTC Vive headset, the headset will let fans virtually immerse into one of the iconic Street Fighter II bonus stage. You will be able to take on the role of, Ryu and begin destroying cars with your fists. As your friends go back to the old retro-style Street Fighter, you will be able to watch their progress in a first-person point of view, that will be on display for everyone to see.
The Street Fighter franchise will also be celebrated with side tournaments including Ultra Street Fighter IV, Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, and Super Street Fighter II Turbo and multiple prize pools are up for the taking.
Also, In celebration of 30 years of Street Fighter; local Boston artist and game franchise enthusiast, Merk Those, will be creating a 5-piece mural showcasing the creative evolution of the Street Fighter characters since their first introduction in 1987! Attendees will be able to see the 5-piece mural as it’s being unveiled during the weekend kickoff event at the newly opened Balance Patch gaming café just steps away from Boston University campus.
