The future is now and gaming has never been better.
We are on the cusp of a lot of amazing things. Even now, we are living in the era of sci-fi story of old, surpassing what people 60 years ago thought was possible.
Not only do take technology meant for other ‘more important’ tasks and repurpose it for entertainment we develop advanced technology for the sole purpose of entertaining ourselves. And with the advent of betting on eSports —check out this BetDSI review if you are interested in putting your eSports knowledge to the test — and eSports becoming a billion dollar industry, and video games themselves being a 140 billion dollar industry we are now investing more time and money into technological developments than ever.
So what are some of the most exceptional technologies of 2019?
Soon enough we’ll be interfacing with virtual displays without the use of a mouse or keyboards. The first thing that comes to mind is how Tom Cruise is rifling through data with his hands in Minority Report. He zooms and minimizes, and swipes file away with the stroke of his wrist.
3D cameras can read the different points on your hands as you gesticulate, creating a new experience unlike ever before. It’s getting so precisely controllable that soon we’ll be rid of the need for controllers that run out of batteries … limiting our game time.
You might be thinking, ‘Wait a minute, but facial recognition has been around for quite some time. We’ve been using it to track criminals and find people in crowded landscapes for years.’ And yes. You are tight. But now facial recognition, and more importantly for our purposes, facial mapping has been repurposed so that we have custom avatars that are able to portray emotions through our own facial expressions.
Now, you can roll through your favorite world and your character will actually look like you … because it is you. Reactions your avatar has will be based off reading the 78 points of your face to accurately display how you react to situations emotionally, adding a deeper playing experience, especially for in they way you view other players and other players view you. Maybe with some extra humanization, the chat sessions will become less brutal for some.
Games like Firewall Zero Hour are taking the FPS gaming experience to another level and Track Mania Turbo has started to scratch the surface as to what is possible with VR racing. But truly immersive VR is just around the bend. Right now we are using existing consoles such as PS4 and Xbox One with VR headsets. But developers will soon be releasing VR consoles with gaming engines specifically designed for dropping us into fantastically surreal virtual worlds!
For those who don’t want to be fully immersed in a virtual world, they can just augment their own. You can now slightly alter —or massively alter— your own surroundings. Augmented reality has been around for a few years, but with the advances we have recently seen, it has gotten pretty darn interesting, especially in the mobile market. The ability to play a game using your camera phone like a lens into an augmented world based on your surroundings is versatile, fun, and super convenient. Games like Father.io and Maguss are completely revolutionizing the way we play games on our mobile devices. There you have it, the Top 4 gaming technologies as we move through 2019
