Hands on With the Lenovo Legion Go S Handheld [CES2025]

Lenovo got into handheld gaming with the Legion Go last year. At CES, they announced the Legion Go S. It will be available in two models, one running Windows 11 OS, and the other running SteamOS.

Lenovo Legion Go S Handheld Specs

The Glacier White version of the Legion Go S is running Windows 11,while the Nebula Violet color is the one running SteamOS (the first handheld that’s not from Valve directly powered by SteamOS) . Unlike the original Legion Go, the joysticks are not detachable.  They are both rocking 8 inch 1920 x 1200 displays with 120Hz. Depending on which storage size you go with, the processor chnage. The 16GB RAM / 512GB storage version has the AMD Ryzen Z2 Go processor, while the 32GB RAM / 1 TB version is paried with the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor. The prices also changes as well.

The front is pretty basic for the most part. You have your buttons, directional pad, two hall effect joysticks with RGB lighting, and a trackpad. The back has two grills, even though it’s just one fan (on the left trigger/ d-pad side). It has what Lenovo has the “Legion ColdFront tech”, which helps keep the handheld cool while gaming. What’s cool is a trigger switch on the back to convert the R2/L2 buttons from full click downs to more of a click-button trigger.

When it comes to ports, there are two USB4 port ((40Gb/s data transfer DisplayPort™ 1.4, + Power Delivery 3.0), Micro SD card slot.

I had the chance to game on it for a short period and obviously that’s not enough time for a full review. It felt pretty smooth. Not too laggy. Since it’s smaller than the Legion Go and it has the curved grips, it was pretty easy to hold on and not feel strain after 10 minutes or so.

Pricing and Availability of Legion Go S Handheld

When it comes to pricing, the SteamOS starts at $500, while the Windows 11 version starts at $600 for the 16GB RAM version. While the 32GB RAM ram version starts at $600 for SteamOS and $700 for the Windows 11 version.

The Windows 11 version Legion Go S will come out at the end of January 2025, while we can expect the SteamOS version in the second quarter of 2025.
