When it comes to headphones, I’m no stranger to the hunt for something sort of minimalist design while still keeping the fun colors that you can find with beats, especially at a lower cost. The Urbanears Plattan 2, was just the headphone I was looking for. When you first look at the design, it’s very simple, no branding, and lots of different color choices. Naturally, I picked the one that caught my eye the most, the limited edition Tove Lo holographic edition.
What’s in the Box?
Taking a first look at the packaging, it’s very clean and simple. Nothing too flashy with the packaging, but it’s still beautiful in its simplicity. I received a couple of inquiries on the box just sitting at my desk, many of my coworkers commenting on how cute the headphones look. When I opened the box, the same simplicity was found inside which was perfect because the headphones spoke for themselves.

Putting them to the Test:
The first thing to call out for these headphones is that they are not noise-canceling. That being said, when I wore them I was still able to mute some of the outside noise without completely blocking out anyone who might be calling for me.
The headphones themselves are very comfortable. They are lightweight and the ear cushions fit perfectly. I wore them at work all day and it was great, there was no pinching of my ears or discomfort from the headphones being too heavy on my head. A total plus is that I received lots of compliments on these headphones because they are just a great look. On the website, you’re also able to order a couple of different accessories for the headsets. They have different color ear cushions as well as audio cables for your headphones, this does come at an additional cost as they are separate accessories. Of course, looks aren’t everything, the functionality is a huge reason for getting them.
I used these headphones to listen to music, talk on the phone, and discord chats. The sound quality was great throughout all my usage. I never had issues with the sound cutting in and out or people not being able to hear me in conference calls or just my discord chats. The battery lasted me a pretty long time, I normally didn’t charge it until 3-5 days later. Of course, this depends on the usage, I used mine for roughly 8hrs a day, give or take a few hours depending on what I’m doing that day. The headphones also have this great knob on the side for skipping tracks and volume control.
One thing I did wish that I had for this set was a case for the headphones. While I understand it defeats the minimalist feel that the brand is going for, I’m somewhat accident-prone. I was worried about just haphazardly tossing the headphones in my bag for fear of crushing it or breaking it. The headphones do not take up a lot of room, they’re foldable so they fold up to be half the size. I also wish it came with an audio cable, which is a bit old fashioned. I know most phones don’t have audio jacks anymore, and everyone is all about going wireless, the technology isn’t available everywhere. While I haven’t tried this for traveling, this would be a pretty difficult headphone to use on the plane if you didn’t have an audio cable. Also without a case, I would be a bit nervous to pack these, however, I guess I could wear it as a fashion statement around my neck. I will say, if it did come with these extra items, it would create bulk which kind of defeats the minimal things you would want to carry anyway.
Ultimately I love these headphones. If you’re in the market for a reasonably priced, colorful headset, with decent sound quality, this is a great headphone to invest in. It’s definitely a headset I recommend to my friends when they tell me they’re in the market for a pair. They’re lightweight, comfortable, and have strong battery life. While I do wish it came with the case and audio cable, I do think those items would only create bulk, I’m sure most people wouldn’t want to carry all that extra stuff. All in all the design and functionality of these headphones are amazing and I’m very happy with them. I definitely foresee myself using this all the time.
