Infinix Note 40 Pro Plus – Affordable and Still Worth It [Review]

The Infinix Note 40 Pro Plus 5G has a lot of features for a mid-range smartphone. We check out if the affordable price tag comes with limits in our review.

As we’ve seen time and time again, mid-range phones are no longer lacking in features and design, at least not always. I love being able to test different phones from the usual suspects. In this review, we check out the Infinix Note 40 Pro Plus, an affordable phone that isn’t readily available in the United States.

Infinix Note 40 Pro Plus Has a Sleek Design

Color me impressed—the Infinix Note 40 Pro Plus is a looker! It has a premium design all around. Your usual bar design, the Note 40 Pro Plus, has a nice textured back in this beautiful Vintage Green. The 6.78-inch AMOLED display has a very thin curved bezel. The metal border looks gold. The camera bump in the back is also a mixture of silver and gold metal. Besides the three cameras, it has ring which has the Active Halo Lighting features. It has a form of charging called MagCharge, that allows you to charge wirelessly at 20W. It even comes with a MagCharge charger. The buttons are found on the right side of the phone with an IR blaster on the top. The speakers on the phone are powered by JBL sound. Lots of features that are great for media consumption.

The Note40 Pro+ case is also Vintage Green and textured. It’s nice to have such a sturdy case provided with the phone, and I love its look and feel.

Day-to-Day Experience Using the Infinix Note 40 Pro Plus 5G

Build and Software

The Note 40 Pro Plus is lightweight and easy to hold one-handed, even though it’s tall. This phone is great for daily use and light mobile gaming. The display isn’t the brightest out there, but you can see the screen easily in daylight. It runs Android 14, so lots of great features are available. As expected, some AI-related features are involved.

Folax ChatGPT Chat

You can use Folax, the phone’s ChatGPT-powered chat. I asked it questions from instructions to the weather and it got it right almost every time. It has prompts to help you ask useful questions or get you organized by using AI assistant a sort of virtual assistant.

Using AI on my phone still doesn’t come naturally to me, I prefer to use a search engine and see sources. In time, I can see this becoming a must-have feature.

Active Halo Lighting Setting

As we stated earlier, a notification ring with the “Active Halo Lighting” feature is on the rear camera bump. Almost like the indicator lights we had on phones before, the halo ring lights up to notify us of an activity. Everything from music to calls, and even when gaming. You can choose from three different lighting effect styles: Lively, Rhythmic, and AI. It’s not a necessary feature, but it’s great when your phone is faced down, and you can tell what type of notification it is based on the lighting effect style.

Infinix Note 40 Pro Plus Cameras

The camera setup on the Infinix Note 40 Pro Plus is interesting. The camera bump isn’t obnoxious or sticking out like a sore thumb. I love that, for the most part, even mid-range devices have great cameras. The 108MP main sensor captures detailed photos. In well-lit and natural daylight areas, the phone took great pictures. On a few occasions, the pictures came out a little washed and overexposed. For the most part, the pictures have a natural look. There is no over-saturation, and the colors are replicated almost identically.

The camera’s default settings are 1x and 3x zoom. At the 3x zoom, it didn’t do badly, and it didn’t lose a lot of detail. The Selfie camera gets the job done as well. You can use features to enhance your look or use one of the premade filters.

Camera Features: Sky Shop

I had fun exploring the camera features and a little too much fun with the “Sky Shop” feature. With this feature, you aim the camera at the sky, and it will apply effects to it. Some effects are more realistic than others, for example, a blue sky or a beautiful sunset versus shooting stars and a large and very close full moon.

Battery Life

After using the phone for a few weeks, I can get through most days before I need to charge it. One of the major highlights of the phone is that it comes with a power adaptor and a 100W power brick. Unfortunately, I can’t use that power brick in the United States. Even with a converter, it just doesn’t produce the same charging speeds.

This means you can set your phone down for about a half hour, and it can either be at nearly 100% charge or completely charged. If overheating or damaging your battery is a fear you have, the phone has battery features such as Low Temp Charging and Smart Charge, which adjusts the charging speeds to protect the battery’s health and also prevent overheating.

If you want to charge your phone wirelessly, you need to have the case on the phone, as the phone doesn’t have wireless charging capabilities on its own.

Final Thoughts

The Infinix Note 40 Pro Plus is a fantastic option for anyone looking for a feature-packed smartphone without breaking the bank. Its vibrant display, solid performance, versatile camera setup, and strong battery life make it a standout in the mid-range segment. I love having a fresh perspective on Android devices and seeing that mid-range phones are pushing the limit regarding features.

Hope to see the phone stateside, or at least it is easier to get stateside!
