iPhone 4S, Do we run out to get it? And more Apple tidbits

Tomorrow, Friday, October 14th, 2011, the ever hyped iPhone 4S (we know now that it’s not the iPhone 5) comes to market. Many people went for the pre-order last Friday morning and throughout the weekend. Pre-orders will be shipped out Friday as well.

If you haven’t taken advantage of the pre-order and want to know if honestly it’s worth the new purchase, keep reading.

Worth the upgrade? Time for iPhone purchase? Overwhelming I’d say yes, IF; you’ve never had an iPhone. This is a great model for your first purchase. Do you have an upgrade due? Worth using it IF, you’re iPhone 4 is well used looking and running a little batty or you have an older model then iPhone 4.

Here’s some basic specs on iPhone 4S that are worth upgrading to;
-8-megapixel camera (vs 5 megapixels w/ iPhone 4) with LED flash, 1080p HD video (vs. 720p w/ iPhone 4) recording
-Bluetooth 4.0; Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n); dual-mode world phone; GSM/UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA; HSPA+; CDMA/EV-DO Rev. Which means it’s a “world” phone) unlike any other iPhone model
-1GHz A5 processor with dual-core graphics. Which equals, faster, faster, faster…we like fast gadgets.
-8 hours (up from 7 hrs. on iPhone 4) of talk time over 3G, 14 hours (12.5 hrs on iPhone 4) over 2G
-Carrier additional: Sprint. Now T-Mobile is the only non-iPhone major carrier in USA.

The most hyped addition to iPhone 4S is the built in application Siri. It’s a full voice recognition assistant of sorts. Siri will answer your questions, find items on phone and give details directions and more. Also there is the new iOS messaging service: iMessage, that comes with the iOS 5 upgrade for iPhones, iTouch, and iPads.

Apple has also released Newsstand, Reminders, Find My Friends, Cards, iTunes Movie Trailers and AirPort Utility. The applications are either included with an update to iOS 5 or now available on the App Store.

So you decide if the new iPhone 4S is worth it for you. I’m on Sprint and I want to wait a bit to see how Sprint handles iPhones on it’s network (everyone remembers how badly AT&T handled the first iPhone). I am planning on purchasing the iPhone sometime in March, just in time for SXSWi (and my birthday).

Some other random Apple tidbits to note:
iTouch is now available in white and has newer pricing; 8gb for $199, 32gb for $299 and 64gb for $399
iPhone 3 is being offered for free (with contract) from AT&T
And of course, Apple reminded us they still sell a lot of iPods and according to them people love the nano on the market now. I however, love my nano they had out before this newest model. I’m not impressed with the nano that looks like a color screen iPod shuffle.
