We Go Hands-On With Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 Announced at Unpacked

It’s been quite a few months for foldable phones. Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 at their Samsung Unpacked event, which they held live in Seoul, Korea. Like many of the rumors and leaks, we see that the Z Fold 5 has the same form factor. Looking at the Z Fold 5, you wouldn’t see too much of a difference from the Z Fold 4.

The Z Fold 5 is a bit lighter and is available in a nice Icy Blue color. The Phantom Black and Cream colors will be available as well. If you order from Samsung.com, you can order the exclusive Gray and Blue colors. The 6.2-inch cover screen has a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. When you unfold it, you see the 7.6-inch dynamic AMOLED main screen. While light and sturdy, the Fold 5 is rated IPX8.

There are lots of cameras here. The cover screen has a 10 MP selfie camera. The under-display camera on the main screen is 4MP. And in the rear, you have the powerful camera block, which includes the 12MP ultra-wide camera (123º), 50MP wide-angle camera (OIS), and the 10MP telephoto camera (OIS).

These phones are running the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and are available in three storage sizes; 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB all with 12GB RAM. The 4,400 mAh dual battery can charge up to 50% in 30 minutes with a 25W charger

All these specs say that it’s a powerful device. If you enjoy the camera on the Galaxy S23, you will like the one on the Z Fold 5.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 sees the most noticeable change as the clamshell comes with a much larger outer screen. It’s now a 3.4-inch, 60 Hz, 720p display. On the bottom, you have the dual 12MP cameras, ultra-wide (123º) and wide-angle (83º). You can see a lot more information on the outer screen now. When you open the Z Flip 5, you have a 10 MP selfie camera. Also running the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, you can get it in either 256GB or 512GB storage. Both sizes at 8GB RAM.

There aren’t too many changes if you’re used to the previous generations of Samsung foldable phones. The hinge, now known as Flex Hinge, is much more streamlined and allows the phone to close flat.

You can preorder the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 starting today at your carriers and at Samsung.com. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 starts at $1800, while the Z Flip 5 starts at $999.
