It’s that time of the year. Samsung has unpacked their latest foldable phones. This year we have the Galaxy Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip8. We saw rumors of the new form factor, and while it did seem a bit odd on paper (the thin Galaxy Z Fold 7 was a hit), I was curious to see how this size would feel in hand.

They of course brought back the original Fold form factor in the Z Fold8 Ultra. The thin, tall foldable that we fell in love with last year now has more power and an improved camera.

DESIGN AND SHAPE

Galaxy Z Fold8

Holding this little passport-shaped foldable feels way better than I expected; it’s nowhere near as blocky as it looks in the leaks.

Folded up, the 5.5-inch FHD screen is super comfortable for one-handed use, but popping it open to that 7.6-inch 4:3 display gives you so much canvas to work with. Both screens get crazy bright, too. You’re getting dual 50MP rear cameras and a solid 4,800 mAh battery, yet the whole thing feels insanely light in the hand.

It hits a sweet spot: definitely a step up from a clamshell flip phone, but without the tall bulk of a traditional book-style foldable. Really excited to put this thing through its paces.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra

Samsung definitely isn’t playing around with the Z Fold8 Ultra. The 6.5-inch cover display is nice, and the 8-inch display is so sharp. Around back, you get a stacked triple-camera setup. It keeps the same 50MP ultrawide as the standard Fold8, but bumps things up big time with a massive 200MP main sensor alongside a 10MP telephoto. They’ve also squeezed in a larger 5,000 mAh battery, which will hopefully finally mean true all-day battery life without having to hunt for a charger before the day is over.
