Harman Kardon Soho On-Ear Headphones Review

Harman Kardon Soho Headphones Review - On-Ear Tech We Like
The Harman Kardon Soho headphones are small and simple. Their sleek style may suggest looks over quality. But is that the case? Check out our review.

If you’re looking for simple and sleek headphones take a look at the Harman Kardon Soho headphones.

Design

The Harman Kardon are elegant and slick looking. There’s none of that loud, color scheme going on. These headphones are minimalist in all senses. The headband is thin and the ear pads are squared just small enough to cover your ears. The leather and stainless steel combination make for a sophisticated and elegant look (that I love).

The ear pads are nice and cushioned. You can remove them from the main body of the Soho’s by pulling them away. They’re on magnetically. Once you lift off the earpads you will see where you can connect the cables. You connect the audio cable on each side. Hiding the connections helps with the minimalist look. The Soho’s come with 2 cables. One cable with with iOS, has buttons and a mic. The other is just a straight cable.

The overall look of the Soho’s is sleek and classy. They come in three different colors; white, brown, or black. They can fold flat by folding in the metal part of the metal.

Experience

Sound

Seeing as these headphones are small and on-ear, I expected full sound, but not loud. The Soho’s have a surprisingly good bass response. Even at the loudest levels the sound doesn’t distort and it doesn’t go flat either. On some songs though, the bass may be too much. Some songs had better bass definition than others. Overall sound is balanced. Mids are crisp and warm. Vocals are rich and defined.

The Soho’s don’t bleed too much. But sometimes the noise from outside can get in because they don’t fit tightly around your ear. Which also means that they can fall out of place because of these unsecured fit.

Comfort

Like I mentioned before the Soho headphones are squared shaped, which is a bit unorthodox. As for comfort, the tight headband forces the ear pads on to your ears. But they rest very gently. You can go on wearing these for a long time before needing a break. This is due more to compression than weight. The earpads don’t get sweaty since they’re on-ear. The cushion feels nice. The Soho’s are lightweight and you won’t even feel the compression on your head.

They are great for those with small ears, who can’t handle too much pressure on their head. Those
With larger heads might feel the pressure though.

The case is a bit annoying. It’s just so tight and you have to fit the headphones in just right. The headphones swivel inward to fit into the carrying case, which takes nearly no room in your bag.

Conclusion

Harman Kardon Soho Headphones Review - On-Ear (12)

One would get these headphones mainly for sleek and discreet style. The compact size and non-flashy (unless you get the white model) design is great for those going for the mature look. They are very attractive. I would wear these on a day that it’d like to wear ear buds but don’t really want the intrusion ear buds (hope that makes sense). With the small carrying case, the Soho’s won’t take up much room in your bag, but you have to master the art of putting them away just right.

I love that the Soho’s don’t skimp on bass and offers great sound for such a small size.

At $200 they are a bit overpriced and can stand at least a $25 decrease. But you will have compact headphones that aren’t overbearing in both looks and baggage.
